Hypocrisy from Gordon Brown

From a recent speech: “Bankers must obey right and wrong like children”

Just like MPs do, eh? Unbelievable…

MPs’ expenses – yet more shenanigans

Apparently, MPs will be able to redact (look it up) parts of their expense claims before they are published later this year. What part of honourable still applies to this sorry shower? We have a Home Secretary who, whilst filddling her second home allowance, claims porn for her husband and we pick up the tab. Mr & Mrs Balls also “have done nothing wrong” on their second home allowance, but that doesn’t mean it’s right, does it?

And now this, allowing the very people who fought tooth and nail to keep their expenses secret will be allowed to edit them before publication? It’s a joke, and not a funny one. When will they wake up and see how deeply disillusioned (i.e. pissed off) the voting public are of them? Do they not realise the exceptionally low esteem they are now held in? Incidentally, this isn’t a Labour thing, too many MPs of all parties have their snouts in the trough, and it’s got to stop. At least Brown is doing the right thing by bringing the inquiry into MPs’ second home allowances forward, he’s gone up a notch in my estimation – he’s now on notch -2,176,287 ;)

Daniel Hannan rips Gordon Brown a new one

Holy crap, Daniel Hannan (MEP for South East) totally eviscerates Gordon Brown in the EU. What a speech…

UPDATE: According to Guido Fawkes, Daniel Hannan’s speech made the front page of Drudge AND is the most viewed world-wide video on Youtube today – outstanding! Maybe now the MSM will run it…

Also, Nigel Farage had a good go as well:

Interestingly enough, this isn’t being reported in the mainstream media (especially the BBC) – I wonder why?

Redundancy is not fun

Well, a couple of weeks ago I became a statistic – one of the 2.03 million unemployed. After a great couple of years at Northcliffe Electronic Media / Associated Northcliffe Digital, a cost-cutting exercise led to a number of people being made redundant, me being one of those people.

Obviously it gives me more time to blog, but I’d rather get back into work as quickly as possible. In between applying for jobs, I’m working on a new stretching program (Paul Zaichik’s Elastic Steel), decorating the house (well, intending to), walking our son to school and jogging back, keeping my hand in with C# / ASP.Net development, etc.

A fun time, but not really – getting kinda desperate to obtain a new position, and in the current environment, it’s all a bit quiet.

Now I’m off to do the hoovering ;)

What’s the difference between…

Q: What’s the difference between Bernard Madoff and Gordon Brown?

A: One has drained fortunes from gullible victims, plundering their income and savings to create an illusion of prosperity. The other is going to jail. :D

From Jeff Randall’s article in The Telegraph, worth reading in its entirety.

Stasi RBS

Disturbing news, this: the (almost) nationalised Royal Bank of Scotland (bailed out by Labour with our money) is now asking people about their political affiliation, under some crap about anti-fraud via the (oh-so-useful) FSA. You can see it now:

Bank: So you need a loan?
Me: Yes please.
Bank: Ah, I see you’re a conservative sort of guy – we don’t appear to have any products for you…

Here’s Fraser Nelson’s post at Spectator’s Coffee House about it, it’s a rather worrying read…

The Daily Show on Gordon Brown’s US visit

Here’s Jon Stewart’s humorous take on The Man Who Saved The Banks and Maybe The World ®:

Ah, Jon Stewart – pointedly correct as usual. He calls Gordon a nerd, which is quite tame…

Watchmen review (9.5 / 10)

Holy crap. Go and see it. It is phenomenal. That is all.

Edit: I might write more later, but there’s just too much to explain – it’s a hell of a film…

Edit 2: Well, as mentioned, I thought the film was phenomenal. It charts the interactions of a group of superheroes (just normal people in masks, a refreshing change) and what happens to them after one of them is murdered. A hunt is on to find the killer, led by a seriously unhinged character called Rorschach, and he’s aided and hindered by his friends, who are also masked avengers. Oh, and there’s Dr. Manhattan, a man made (almost) God by being caught in a physics field experiment – he can be any size (no sniggering at the back), exist in multiple places at the same time and turn you inside out just by thinking it. Oh, and he’s usually naked as well – don’t sit too close to the screen.

All this set against an alternative version of the 80s, where Nixon is starting his third term, a nuclear war between the US and Russia is imminent (desipte the presence of Dr. Manhattan), gang warfare, etc.

And I’ve not even mentioned the fantastic soundtrack (some very iconic songs of the times in there), the special effects, the well-choreographed fight scenes, the (brief) gore, the VERY good acting from the main players, and so on…

Do yourself a favour and go and watch it, but don’t drink too much liquid as the film clocks in at 2 hours 42 minutes, and there’s a longer cut planned for DVD/Blu-Ray release at some point, which will include The Tales Of The Black Freighter, an allegory / companion to the main story.

Then you can read the graphic novel and compare and contrast :)

New Terminator:Salvation trailer

I am quite a fan of the Terminator series; I think the seond one was better than the third, but the third was still fairly decent, with a very acceptable (canon) ending. I hadn’t really kept up with the new film, I was aware that Christian “eff!” Bale was in it, and it was directed by McG (Charlies Angels’ McG!), but didn’t see much apart from a few pictures and an early trailer. It wasn’t bad, and probably one to catch a few weeks after release, or maybe wait for Blu-Ray.

Well, here’s a new trailer which makes me want to see the film on the first day of release:

Looks rather good – hat-tip to FirstShowing.net :)
