Kung Fu Kid trailer

Ok, it looks like a scene-for-scene remake of the Karate Kid – which it is. But, that’s not a bad thing… Starring Jackie Chan (praised be his name) and Jaden Smith (Will Smith’s nipper), it opens soon and frankly, doesn’t look half bad -I’ll take my son to watch it, I reckon. Nice to see some traditional Kung Fu training and philosophy in there as well.

Tekken “Stunt Stars” vids from Discovery

Well worth a watch, here’s Discovery’s “Stunt Stars” feature on the upcoming Tekken film, choreographed by Cyril Rafaelli, and starring, oooh, tons of real martial artists – no offence, Holly Valance :p

The vids are shown below using YouTube’s clever playlist, er, player – there are five in total, enjoy!

Ah, chroma-key, how you’ve grown

Chroma-key, colour-seperation overlay, blue-screen, green-screen… It’s come a long way, and this vid proves it. I can’t believe how many shows now use it, even Ugly Betty – yeah, I watch it, so what?!

As you’ll tell from the vid, it’s from Stargate Studios, and is amazing work… It’s stunning how far special effects have come in recent years, e.g. the burly man brawl in that 2nd Matrix film that was never made, any number of kid’s films, Avata – well, almost ;-) Just need to get out of the uncanny valley ;)

Tekken Trailer!

Having playing Tekken (1) after being lured away from Mortal Kombat, I’ve been a big fan of the game and the current incarnation (Tekken 6) is awaiting my attention when I have some time. After a slew of so-so to crap martial arts game adaptations, the Tekken movie looks like it might be quite good – here’s the trailer:

The story focuses on Jin Kazama, out to destroy the head of the Tekken Zaibatsu, Heihachi Mishima, to avenge the death of his mother. Pretty much the entire roster is there: Eddy, Bryan Fury (yay!), Heihachi, Nina, Anna, Raven (not so yay), etc. The fight choreography has been done by an amazing martial artist / stuntman / loon called Cyril Rafaelli, who you may recal from the film District 13, where he starred alongside David Belle.

So long as they shoot the fight scenes well, it should turn out rather well. I found the trailer to cut away a bit too much, but it is a general trailer, not R / 18. The cast includes Jon Foo as Jin Kazama and Lateef Crowder as Edy Gordo, both of whom were in Tony Jaa’s excellent Warrior King – Lateef Crowder had the better fight with Tony Jaa in it, but it looks like Jon Foo will shine a bit more in this film. Incidentally, look out for Lateef Crowder in Undisputed 3 soon, with the always-awesome Scott Adkins.

The rest of the cast is rounded out very well: British martial arts star Gary Daniels looks spot-on as Bryan Fury, Luke Goss (very good in Blade 2) as Steve Fox, MMA star Cung Le as Marshall “cheap” Law, and I’ve pleased to see everyone’s favourite robo-ninja-cyborg-thing Yoshimitsu in there as well, played by Gary Ray Stearns. I’ve only mentioned a few of the cast, so head on over to the Tekken page on IMDB to read up.

Release date is March 5th, 2010 in the UK, but no theatrica release unfortunately – I wonder if it’s in Blu-Ray?

Kick Ass “green band” trailer

Here’s a “green band” (e.g. suitable for everyone) trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s film adaptation of Mark Millar’s “Kick Ass”:

It looks like a lot of fun, and it’s out in April – hopefully I’ll be seeing it then, still not got round to seeing Sherlock Holmes, hmmph.

Note: here’s a “red band” trailer (suitable for adults only – e.g. blood, violence, and fruity language) starring Hit Girl, another protagonist and all-round ass-kicker – worth a watch, but be warned, blood, violence, etc…

Hot Tub Time Machine trailer

Ok, read something about this earlier this year, and on the strength this trailer, I’m there:

Great cast, lots of comedy, and – I’ll admit it – I loved the 80s!

Two cool trailers: Iron Man 2, Clash Of The Titans

Both as good as each other, methinks:

Very much looking forward to both, I really like the casual “You complete me” line from Tony Stark to Pepper Potts as he jumps out of the chopper, and hearing Zeus say “Release the Kraken” gave me chills…

Looking forward to seeing them both next year :)

Family Guy’s take on The Empire Strikes Back

I’m a big Family Guy fan, and enjoyed their take on Star Wars, titled Blue Harvest. Here’s their next offering, Something Something Something Dark Side:

The AT-AT holding its shin made me post this :-)

Clash Of The Titans trailer

Aaaand I’ve just jizzed in my pants:

A big thanks to The Movie Blog – it may not be up for long, so watch it now!

I loved the original (saw it with my dad when I was young), looking forward to taking my son to this – it’s one of those “circle of life” things :-p

Sherlock Holmes trailer

I was quite a big Sherlck Holmes fan in my youth, and this, directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams and Mark Strong, looks like a lot of fun:

I know it doesn’t look much like The Speckled Band, but there’s some artistic license there. A lot, in fact ;) It comes out this Christmas…

Undisputed 3 Trailer

Right, this is obviously a sequel to Undisputed 2 (a sequel in itself) which starred Michael Jai White as the good guy (see him in Black Dynamite soon) and Scott Adkins (see him in, er, Undisputed 3 and Ninja) as his rival. Undisputed 2 was set in a prison, and seeing as Scott’s character Boyka did not make it out of prison, he’s still there, but fighting in a world prison fighting league championship sort of thing. Frankly, the combat side of martial arts is all about besting someone in combat, so all these films that have tournaments as the main driver of the plot – well, that’s why.

Anyhoo, here’s the trailer:

I really enjoyed the first film (er, 2nd), and have been to a couple of Scott’s power kicking seminars. Despite looking exceptionally mean in this film (he’s the guy show gets angry at the end), he is a great guy, very friendly and full of great advice. He also kicks like a freakin’ mule :s

The cast is also well-rounded, with a chap called Marko Zorar playing the bad guy this time, and Lateef Crowder, a capoeira practitioner last seen by me fighting Tony Jaa in Warrior King (aka Tom Yum Goong), and soon to be seen in the new Tekken film.

The Expendables unofficial trailer

Not the official trailer, not yet, for Sylvester Stallone’s take on 80s action movies – The Expendables. It has a ma-hoo-sive cast – Sly, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren (!), TERRY CREWS, Steve Austin, etc.

Some has said it looks a bit cheesy, but that might be intentional; I watched enough buddy-buddy 80s movies growing up to have an affection for the genre – Tango and Cash, anyone?

Anyway, here’s the trailer, looks like good, popcorn entertainment:
