EU Referendum: now this is taking the mickey
January 26th, 2008 by mikeFirst, Gordon Brown says no vote is necessary on the EU Constitution Reform Treaty, then he finagles his way out of being seen to sign the damned thing with the other “leaders” and then halves the time allowed for debate in Parliament for it!
This is surely beyond contempt, an act so cowardly and undemocratic that it must (please) spell the end for this incompetent, dour, indecisive, blithering, contemptible excuse for a prime minister. Even Polly Toynbee, the bastion of left, piled into Labour this week, which is very welcome to see.
I sincerely hope that we get a referendum on this disgusting, sovereignty-stripping, already-rejected constitution, but if not, then I damn well want a general election soon after, and a sensible government to repeal the signing of it, or take us out of the EU. I don’t believe being in an corrupt, self-serving super-state.
If you feel as I do about the EU Referendum do something about it: contact your MP and tell them you want a referendum. Don’t be fobbed off by the rubbish excuse that “it’s not a constitution, it’s a reform treaty and we didn’t promise a referendum on that”, seeing as the cross-party select committee on foreign affairs recently stated “that there is no ‘material difference’ between foreign affairs provisions in the two treaties”.
I WANT A REFERENDUM (click me)
EDIT: Nothing in the mainstream press about this, pathetic!
